Our Mission, Vision, and Values:

Grace Overflowing

Bringing faith to life through God’s unchanging Word

At the Lutheran Church of St. John,

  • Grace flows to us in joy-filled worship as the Word of God is proclaimed.
  • Grace flows through us as we grow together sharing the Gospel of Jesus.
  • Grace flows from us as we reach out with the love of Jesus.

“The grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus”  1 Timothy 1:14

Grace

Our congregation has always had a strong emphasis on the grace that flows from the cross and that we receive in the Sacraments.  It is also reflective of our Lutheran heritage and the emphasis on grace in our theology.  Grace reminds us that who we are and what we do begins not with us, but with God.  It also serves as a reminder that all, regardless of status, are included in God’s kingdom.  Therefore, we rejoice in worship and grow together based on the grace revealed to us in His Word and forgiveness.

Overflowing

God blesses us in ways that are extravagant and overwhelming.  In John, Jesus reminds us “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).  That abundance overflows and creates in us an attitude of thanks in response to what God has done.  It also implies that we are blessed by God to be a blessing to others.  When something overflows, it touches those things around it.  Likewise, when we overflow with God’s grace, we will touch and influence those around us.

Bringing Faith to Life

This adds direction to God’s grace in us.  God’s Grace drives us into relationships where we compassionately share the Gospel of Jesus.  We reach out to the community with the love of Jesus.  When grace overflows, it means we love those around us and we reach out to those who don’t yet know that grace.  The movement of grace to life makes the grace of God more than just an abstract idea, but a practical,

relevant part of our everyday lives.
