Jesus, the Christ, born of a
virgin about 2,000 years ago, lived in poverty and was raised in obscurity
in a town called Nazareth. He did not travel extensively.
He possessed neither wealth or high social standing. His relatives were
inconspicuous and had neither training or formal education.
As a little baby, He startled a king; as a child, He puzzled doctors of
theology; as a man, He ruled the course of nature, walked upon the clouds as
pavement, and hushed the sea to sleep.
He healed the multitudes without medicine and made no charge for His
service.
He never wrote a book. Yet, many more books have been written about Him
than about anyone else who has ever lived. His teachings have been
translated into over 1,000 languages and have a circulation far greater than
any other writings in existence.
He never wrote a song. Yet, He and His Truth are the source of tens of
thousands of songs.
He never founded a college. Yet, all the schools put together cannot
boast of having as many students.
He never marshaled any army, drafted a soldier, or wielded a weapon. Yet,
no leader ever had more volunteers who have, under His orders, made more
rebels lay down their weapons and surrender without a shot fired.
He never practiced psychiatry. Yet, He has healed more broken hearts and
messed-up minds than all the doctors far and near.
Once each week, faithful followers cease their daily work and multitudes
of people find their way to worshiping assemblies to pay homage and respect
to Him.
The names and accomplishments of many past, proud statesmen of Greece and
Rome have come and gone. The names of all but a few of past scientists,
philosophers, and theologians have come and gone. But the Name of this Man
abounds more and more.
Time has spread almost 2,000 years between the people of our generation
and the events of His crucifixion and His resurrection from the dead. Yet,
He still lives. His truth is proclaimed throughout the world. His people
continue to follow Him; He continues to work through them.
King Herod could not destroy Him and the faithless religious leaders
could not trap Him. When these groups conspired together to put Him to death
on the cross, the grave could not hold Him. God raised Him from the dead.
He is the Savior of the whole human race. He is the only hope for our
dying world. For those who come to know Him, He is their comfort, their
refuge, their strength, their peace. Indeed, for those who believe in Him,
He is their life.
He stands forth upon the highest pinnacle of heavenly glory, proclaimed
to be God's own Son, acknowledged by angels, adored by saints, and feared by
devils, as the living, personal Christ, the Lord and Savior of all who
believe!
