In Luther’s Small Catechism, he reminds us that the power of God is given through His Holy Word. It is the power of the Word that makes Baptism a "life-giving water, rich in mercy and grace." It is the power of the Word that connects the bread and wine with the body and blood of Jesus Christ, who feeds us for spiritual refreshment and strength. It is God’s Word that we are to "hear, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest . . . that by patience of comfort of Thy Holy Word we may embrace, and ever hold fast, the blessed hope of everlasting life" which God has given us in Christ Jesus. (Collect for the Word). If you desire to grow stronger in your faith, if you want to more fully and faithfully follow your Lord Jesus Christ, if you want His life and His light to shine through you in your family and in all your relationships, all these things come through a study of the Word of God. We invite you to join one of our many Bible Study groups to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. As our God causes the earth to grow, bloom, and blossom during the summer months, why not let His word of truth bring about the same growth in your heart and soul? Join a Bible study and see what God will do!

FEARLESS BIBLE STUDIES BEGIN "Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear. They’re talking layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, flare-ups in the Middle East, turnovers at headquarters, downturns in the housing market and upswings in global warming. The plague of our day, terrorism, begins with the word terror. Fear, it seems, has taken a hundred-year lease on the building next door and set up shop. Oversized and rude, fear herds us into a prison and slams the doors. Wouldn’t it be great to walk out? Imagine your life, wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could hover a fear magnet over your heart and extract every last shaving of dread, insecurity, or doubt, what would remain? Envision the day when you can trust more and fear less. Can you imagine your life without fear?" The text above is from the jacket cover of Max Lucado’s book Fearless. Though causes for fear are a daily presence, God gives us the opportunity to respond to these challenges with His promise, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand". Isaiah 41:10. God’s promise to us manifested itself in His Son, Jesus Christ, who encourages us, on many occasions, "Fear not". Our 2010-2011 Bible study series will begin on September 19, 2010 with a six-week study using Fearless as our discussion guide, with Max Lucado inviting us to consider Jesus’ invitation to courage. Discussion groups will be held on Sunday mornings and multiple times during the week, with sign-ups beginning August 29, 2010. We invite you join us in this study as, together, we learn to apply the reality of Jesus’ encouragement to us, "Don’t be afraid". Please contact the Church office at 222-8579 for dates and times of the various study groups.
Sunday Adult Bible Classes Pastor Bender" A new study will begin on September 5: "The Parables of our Lord Jesus Christ." After the introductory material, we will take a look at ten or so specific parables that we may grow in faith and in living under our Lord Jesus Christ in His Kingdom. Please come and join your brothers and sisters in Christ to "Grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 3:18)
