BOARD OF CHRISTIAN CAREGIVING |
|
We will be serving another King's Banquet on Friday, June
8th. So many people have told us how special this meal is to them to be able
to go out to eat for a sit down dinner. This is a congregational activity
that came about through our Leadership Team. The Board of Christian Care
Giving would appreciate any financial and teamwork support in planning and
serving this meal. The account is still in the hole and it is easier to plan
if we have a balance on hand. Our congregation has shown great love and
support to the families and individuals of our community who need a helping
hand.
The old woman sat with her head in her hands, her shoulders hunched
forward. As I bade, "Good morning," to welcome her to our Food Pantry, she
raised her head and mumbled a response. I then could see she was young in
years. She shook slightly and the red-rimmed, watery eyes did not meet my
own. My thoughts turned to drug &/or alcohol use and how the Lord could help
her with that. Then she told a story of the shame she felt at having to be
at a Food Pantry on a Monday morning and how her deceased father would be so
disappointed that she had stooped so low. She admitted to, not drug use, but
to crying for 2 hours before gathering an ounce of courage and come through
our doors-keeping her head down, hoping no one would notice her. As I told
her of her Father in heaven who loves and welcomes all of his children to
his family through his Son, she began to cry softly, but the shaking was
gone and as her number was called to sign in to use the Food Pantry, she
straightened her shoulders, lifted her head and went forth.
