"Building on the Cornerstone"
Already in Place at
The Lutheran Church of St. John
The Lutheran Church of St. John has been teaching God’s Word for 167
years. We are currently in our third church building. This building was
constructed in 1962, and for the most part, no significant structural
changes have been made since that time.
Beginning with a congregational planning session on April 9, 2002,
members expressed ideas for the future which included visions for
programming and facility needs. From this Spirit-filled planning session, we
recognized the need to add professional staff to reach more people with our
ministry. Since then we have added a Director of Christian Education (DCE)
and a lay Minister of Christian Caregiving. The Lutheran Church of St. John
is now worshipping 30 to 40 more people every Sunday than in 2003 and more
younger families are becoming members.
Current Activities and Strengths
Growth in membership and worship attendance;
Traditional and contemporary worship styles being offered;
Growing youth group with our DCE and others organizing the youth of
the three LCMS churches;
The start up of women’s ministry program organized by our DCE
The start up of a Stephen ministry program organized by our Minister
of Christian Caregiving;
An outreach program to the needy in our community organized by our lay
Minister of Christian Caregiving;
A continued seminary partnership through our vicarage program; and
Increased Bible studies offered through our educational program.
Vision for Future Ministry at St. John’s
Results of our congregational planning session and other meetings with
leaders include the following vision for St. John’s:
To exhibit God’s love in our community by helping and reaching out to
those in need;
To continue to strengthen and improve our youth and family ministry
and Christian educational programs; and
To continue through Christian education and fellowship to spread God’s
love by welcoming all people and encouraging and motivating our members to
be involved in our ministries, working together as God’s people according
to His plan to increase His Kingdom.
